                                            F/Class a brief history lesson

The sport was started in Canada, by the late George “Farky” Farquharson, after whom the sport is named. This sport involves using highly accurate single-shot centre fire rifles, high powered scopes and a means of steadying the rifle such as a bipod or pedestal rest. Participants shoot at paper bull’s eye targets at long distance, where the ability to read wind and other conditions determines their success.

The sport was developed to address the fact that many shooters were finding that in there advancing age and diminishing eye sight and there arms not being able to hold there rifle as still as they did in there early years of shooting, thus the sport of F-Class was born.

F-Class is a precision long distance target shooting sport, using a rifle with a scope mounted on it in which competitors shoot at targets between 300 and 1000 yards, with the object of shooting a small group of shots as close to the center of the target as possible.

In Australia we have two main types of F/Class shooting, they are called standard and open and they are governed by the National Rifle Association Australia. All F/Class shooting is conducted on rifle ranges found around Australia and are controlled by each state association. You will find on any given Saturday groups of shooters enjoying the friendly competition of F/Class shooting. There are a few other styles of F/Class shooting in Australia one is long distance F/Class and is shot at 1000 yards out to 1200 yards and a discipline called Match Rifle were competitors shoot of there elbows with scoped rifles shot at the same distance as the long range F/Class shooters.
